Numbers
We have an obsession with numbers. All of us do. But we, the body of believers, we really do get a bit tangled up in our numbers watching. How many attenders? How many baptisms? How many visits? How much money? We have a fascination with the rising and falling of numbers.
Let me say this: I watch the numbers. I think that there is a healthy measure in being aware of the numbers. As long as it does not consume you. It is like a lot of things in life…too much focus on anything but Christ…and we will find ourselves lost in something that doesn’t matter. I am writing to inform the family of “number idolatry”. An idolatry that I have seen, lived, ignored, and contributed to. But, today I wish to give you a few numbers that matter to me.
3 – The number of elementary schools in Roanoke whose students have been directly affected by the heart of the individuals who attend and give to Rhythm.
85 – The percentage of money that was given to Rhythm by attenders (offering) over the last year that was given away to those in need both in Roanoke and outside the city.
40 – The percentage of Rhythm attenders who gave their time to serve for more than 4 days on the first mission effort.
33 – The number of children whose lives and families will be forever changed by the generosity of those who gave to adopt children last week through Compassion International.
These are the numbers that make me smile. These are the things I want to make certain we keep in the focus. Making a difference outside the walls is what God called His people to do. Keep counting…but only when necessary.

God’s AWESOME power shined for all to see when this group got together in August, laid down their personal agendas and followed the example of Jesus Christ.
As individuals, there was no way we could have accomplished all that was completed for the Roanoke City Schools. Joined together as the Body of Christ, we experienced the truth-God is able and wants to do the impossible through His believers.
God showered blessings on the community AND on each person who gave of their time this summer to help the children of the Roanoke City Schools. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this ministry!
