A Night with Shaun Groves

On November 20th Shaun Groves joined us for a great night of worship, challenges, and making a difference in our world. Thanks!

Shaun Groves

Hey Guys…

Just wanted to drop a post and say that we are very excited that Shaun Groves will be joining us this week at Rhythm.  Shaun is a singer/songwriter/blogger/compassion spokesperson who has a heart that will resonate well with the young adults in the Roanoke Valley.  I hope you all will take the chance to come out and worship a little, listen a little, and perhaps take the chance to give back a little.  It really should be an amazing evening.

Also, I wanted to remind you of two things.

Thing 1- We will be dressing very warmly and taking a recreational stroll up Read Mountain together this weekend.  Good times…details to follow at Rhythm.

Things 2 – No meeting next week. Sorry…but it is thanksgiving.  See you the first Thursday in December!

Q and A Podcast is online now

Hey guys and gals.

The podcast from last week is up.  Pardon the delay, I have been out of town and involved in 6 worships in the last 72 hours so…please extend a bit of grace…I will try to do better.

On a fun note, as of yesterday (Sunday) Rhythm hit its 7000th podcast download!  Very cool.

Let us know what you are thinking on these questions and answers…the more feedback we get the better job we can effort doing for you!

Blessings,

Questions for Rhythm 11-13-08

So here is the preview of this weeks coffee/discussion/informal time of answering questions.

I am sorry that I cannot get to all the questions that were asked…but hopefully we can discuss them soon.

This week, however, with time permitting we will be sharing about the following:

- What is God’s purpose for marriage?

- God and the issue of suicide.

- How do I love/share/talk to my atheist friends about my faith?

- How can I know the Bible is true/accurate/trustworthy and more less not like any other book on religion?

Maybe we get through these, maybe we don’t…but it should make for fun discussions.

See you Thursday…

The Soil

Hey guys…

I have enjoyed reading the comments and grinning at the thought put into the responses on the “adjective” post.  I look forward to more.  There will be a post in the next few days containing a preview of the questions we will address next week.

The podcast is up from last night.  Just a brief set of thoughts here…

There are four kinds of soil that Jesus identifies. The path, the rocky, the thorny, and the good.

Only one produces fruit…so fruit is a sign of the seed becoming what is intended.

What are you becoming?  is there any fruit?  Is your faith in Christ reproducing itself in the faith of others?

Have a listen…and tell us what you think?

Blessings,

CT

Is “Christian” an adjective?

Rather than take a side or not take a side for the time being…I wish to begin by asking a question.  Is “christian” an adjective?  Should it be?  Is it something God intended?  Do we do it on purpose?  is it helpful?  What kinds of things happen to our way of thinking if it is? (Okay, it was several questions)

Now, why am I asking? Well, because it is a question I have asked myself for a while.  It is something that I have done in conversation.  It is also something that I think is the root of some other questions and issues that we face as believers.  My thoughts were sparked the other day in the strangest of places.  I was in a very large “Christian” (insert example here) bookstore recently.  I made my way to the restroom, entered the stall, and found myself staring at a magazine advertisement for the store.  The main item/article/coupon/whatever was for a “new” video game.  It was called Guitar Praise.  It is Guitar Hero for “believers”.  I was a bit stunned.  I giggled.  Then I shook my head and decided I was not shocked at all. Why not? Well, Guitar Hero is on at least its third version not counting all the spin-offs for decade specific or band specific song content.  It came out in 2005.  It is extraordinarily popular with many age groups. It is a phenomenon. So, it was about time.  I should have seen it coming.  The points here are these…then I will let the  comments begin…

1 – Can a video game be “christian”?

2 – Is this an example of the lack of creativity we as the christian community tend to demonstrate by borrowing and refurbishing from modern things that actually work?

3 – Does it actually help or hinder people from faith in Christ?

4 – When we do something like this (take a very profitable idea from the secular world) and try to make it our own…are we really trying to protect our children and provide for our teens or are we looking for a way to make money off of “church folk”?

One more thing…these are thoughts and questions…not opinions. They are intended for conversations and thought.  Lets talk it out.  Maybe we learn something together.  Maybe?
