Hey there, Delilah…
This week at Rhythm, Craig talked about Samson… a man of strength and a certain amount of pride… There were many times in his life that God used to fight the enemy and win the day, but in the end the person who defeated Samson was himself. He let himself be blinded by… well… himself. When Delilah came to him 3 times in a row, asking what made him so strong, and 3 times in a row he told her and she did it to try to weaken him, he should have gotten it through his thick scull that something was going on here. But he didn’t. His eyes were not open to the truth about her and about himself. If he had seen this weakness in himself, his penchant for telling Delilah how to take away his God-given strength, would he still have done it? I honestly don’t know.
One thing about Samson stands out to me: his pride in himself, in his own abilities, and his cockiness was ultimately his downfall. He was so sure of himself and didn’t allow God enough room to speak into his life and his actions, that he ended up taking matters into his own hands… and well… we see how that turned out… After some time working as a slave, Samson gets one last chance at redemption, one last chance to do what he was created to do and he uses it to bring the house down (literally)!
We, as humans, have a lot of pride, especially if we are good at what we do. We have certain strengths in many areas of our lives that we take pride in… we need to be ever aware of ourselves and those around us to make sure that we continually glorify God with our gifts and talents and not get blinded by them. We need to avoid getting binded by the enemy because he will work hard to grind out all thoughts of God in our lives.
