About

Rhythm

Rhythm is a ministry geared toward all college students and young adults in and around the Roanoke Valley. The heartbeats of Rhythm include passion, worship, fellowship, community, and a mission outside of ourselves. One of the best things about Rhythm is not what we know, but what we don‘t know about it. We are excited not only about what it is, but what it is becoming! As we are growing together in Christ, Rhythm is growing with us.

Here are a few things we are certain of. Rhythm meets weekly for an exciting worship experience for college students and young adults that challenges our spirits and brings about an overwhelming desire to know God intimately. We want God to chisel away our pre-conceived notions about Him and allow us to see Him as He truly is and not how we think He ought to be. We want people to know they are welcome and feel genuinely accepted. We succeed and we fail. We extend grace and receive grace. We laugh and we weep…together.  We are sinners.  We need a Savior.  Jesus is just that.

At Rhythm we have four core values (or “heartbeats”) that drive everything that we do.

  1. A Passion for Scripture
  2. Community
  3. Celebration
  4. A Mission Outside of Ourselves

Listen to the Heartbeats.

The Jonathan Project

jp-smThe cadence of Rhythm is kept by this lively bunch of guys (and of course, the powerfully beautiful voice of Brittany) as they lead in worship through music.  Connecting their own generation to the heart of God, the Jonathan Project is Spirit-led in leadership, current in musical selections and styles, and influential in relationships. They love to have a good time and display the friendly character of Christ.  Joining with dozens of like-minded young adults, these lead worshippers truly seek to bow at the throne of God, bringing many along with them.

Quotes

“…thank you….I mean it from the deepest part of my heart.  What you are doing every Thursday brings me hope that my life though it may be full of garbage…I can change that and be one with Christ.”
-student

“Rhythm has honestly become one of the highlights of my week…
Rhythm is the one place where I don’t have to be “(insert leadership title here)”… I’m just (myself) and I love it!”
-student

“I have finally found an outlet where I fit into a family that loves me unconditionally…  There’s always something about myself that I can improve and the messages you bring show me those things without insulting me but you use your life as an example and point out that you’re not…perfect…either.”
-student

“I had strayed off course in my life and had forgotten what life is all about. I was not leading a righteous life…thank you for what you have done for me. I am so glad that the podcasts are available to listen to, to help me better understand God’s words, and I hope that I can actually come down to Roanoke on a Thursday night…”
-listener

“The way that my Roanoke friends led their lives shaped me and made me remember what had always made me complete. They told me about a Thursday night service. I did find love, but it wasn’t what I had been expecting. I found Rhythm. I found God, again. I found true friendship. With this I have helped my sister start fresh. She is living proof of the miracles that happen day to day. She finds God in everything and believes again…Thank you for getting us back on track.”
-student

“when a young person whose body language speaks of feeling like a social outcast is suddenly pulled into conversations and invited to fellowship beyond the Rhythm meetings I feel blessed.  I personally feed on the energy these students give off and it gives me the motivation to continue, even when I feel like dropping…the excitement at watching these young adults as they listen intently to the Bible being taught in a way that is not entertainment but straight to the point using their own vocabulary.  I will admit that there was a point of skepticism on my part, before I met you personally, because of the individuals and organizations funding this project.  This skepticism has been fully removed…”
